Duolingo currently awards a crown when any leaf (skill) on the tree (course) is completed. You can earn up to five crowns per leaf. The maximum number of crowns is dependent upon the size of the tree.
I’m currently taking the oldest of the currently active French trees. According to duome.eu, I’m in Tree2, which has a total of 392 crowns available, with 78 skills (leaves), 358 lessons, and 2,366 available “lexemes”, which are not exactly equivalent to words, or phrases.
Today I earned 100 crowns on the tree, and I just wanted to celebrate.
